WORCESTER, Sept 6: England completed a 3-0 series sweep over Ireland after securing a convincing 114-run victory in the third and final women’s ODI at New Road on Sunday.
Sophia Dunkley produced a standout performance with a commanding 119, anchoring England’s innings as the hosts posted 291 before being bowled out in 48.5 overs. Her century provided the foundation for England despite a late batting collapse in which the hosts lost six wickets for 31 runs.
Ireland began its chase positively, with captain Gaby Lewis helping her side make a brisk start. England’s bowlers, however, gradually tightened their grip and restricted the visitors to 177 all out.
Lauren Filer and young spinner Tilly Corteen-Coleman were among England’s key performers with the ball, while Ireland’s Cara Murray finished with four wickets for 56 runs.
Dunkley’s century stood out as the defining contribution of the match and capped a successful series for England. The team also used the final game to experiment with its lineup, including giving Alice Capsey an opportunity behind the stumps.
The match also marked the international retirement of Ireland’s Arlene Kelly, who finished her career with 136 wickets.
England’s comprehensive series victory provides valuable momentum ahead of a busy international schedule, while Ireland will look to build on the experience gained from facing a strong English side.
