EOW Kashmir Files Chargesheet Against Two in Fake Agricultural Products Fraud Case

Investigation alleges conspiracy to market fake farm inputs in the Valley, causing financial losses to growers and stakeholders.

Srinagar, Jun 25: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch has filed a chargesheet against two individuals accused of involvement in an alleged counterfeit agricultural products racket operating across parts of the Kashmir Valley.

According to officials, the chargesheet was submitted before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sopore, in connection with FIR No. 33/2018 registered under relevant provisions of the Ranbir Penal Code pertaining to cheating and criminal conspiracy, along with sections of the Essential Commodities Act.

The accused have been identified as Shahbaz Ahmad Bhat of Goripora, Bomai in Sopore and Kursheed Ahmad Mir of Shadimarg, Kalampora in Pulwama district.

The case originated from a complaint regarding the alleged distribution of fake “Glo Potash” products in the Valley. Following the registration of the case, investigators carried out a detailed probe to verify claims related to the sale and circulation of the suspected agricultural inputs.

During the course of the investigation, officials gathered material indicating that the accused were allegedly involved in a coordinated plan to introduce spurious products into the agricultural market. The inquiry reportedly found that the activity was aimed at securing unlawful financial benefits through the sale of counterfeit goods.

Authorities stated that the alleged distribution of fake products adversely impacted orchard owners, farmers and horticulture-related businesses that relied on the authenticity and quality of agricultural inputs. The case also raised concerns about the potential effect such products could have on crop productivity and the agricultural economy.

With the filing of the chargesheet, the investigation has formally concluded and the matter will now move forward for judicial scrutiny before the competent court. The prosecution is expected to present evidence collected during the investigation as part of the legal proceedings.

The Economic Offences Wing reiterated its commitment to tackling financial crimes and fraudulent business practices that affect public interests and economic activity. Officials emphasized the importance of ensuring that farmers and growers purchase agricultural inputs only from authorized and verified sources.

The agency also appealed to members of the public to remain alert against counterfeit products and other forms of economic fraud. Citizens possessing information about similar activities have been encouraged to report such cases to the Economic Offences Wing for prompt action.

Officials said strengthening public awareness and timely reporting of suspicious transactions remain key components in preventing financial crimes and protecting consumers from fraudulent schemes.
