Srinagar, June 13: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday intensified its investigation into an alleged date of birth manipulation case by conducting search operations at multiple locations in Shopian and Pulwama districts.
The action forms part of an ongoing inquiry into accusations that official records were unlawfully modified to secure benefits linked to government service. Authorities have registered a case under relevant legal provisions and launched a detailed examination of the circumstances surrounding the alleged irregularities.
As part of the operation, investigators visited the office premises of the Deputy Chief Medical Officer in Shopian and also searched a residential property in the Thamuna area of Pulwama district. Officials stated that the searches were carried out after obtaining the necessary legal authorisations and were witnessed by independent observers in accordance with prescribed procedures.
Sources associated with the investigation said the focus remains on verifying records connected to service documentation and determining whether any unauthorised changes were made to official entries. Teams collected relevant files, documents and other materials that may assist in establishing the facts of the case.
The inquiry is centred on allegations that alterations in personal service details may have been used to obtain advantages not otherwise available under existing regulations. Investigators are examining documentary evidence and other records to determine the authenticity of entries maintained in official files.
Officials said the material seized during the searches will undergo detailed scrutiny as part of the broader investigation. Statements from individuals connected with the matter may also be recorded to establish the sequence of events and identify any possible violations of law.
The Crime Branch reiterated its commitment to tackling financial and administrative misconduct and said economic offences that undermine transparency and accountability are being closely monitored. The agency emphasised that all complaints received are assessed on merit and investigated in accordance with legal procedures.
Authorities also appealed to citizens to remain alert against fraudulent activities and cooperate with law-enforcement agencies by reporting suspected cases of financial or administrative wrongdoing. Public participation, officials said, plays an important role in strengthening efforts to curb economic offences.
The Economic Offences Wing advised victims or individuals possessing information related to fraud and similar offences to approach the designated authorities and share relevant details to facilitate timely action.
Officials maintained that the investigation is at a crucial stage and that all available evidence is being carefully examined. Further action will depend on the findings emerging from the scrutiny of records and other material gathered during the search operations.
The Crime Branch has assured that the probe will be conducted in a fair and transparent manner while ensuring that all legal procedures are strictly followed. Additional developments are expected as investigators continue to analyse the evidence collected during the course of the operation.
Further investigation in the matter is underway.
