Srinagar, May 18: Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, father of jailed Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid, passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi after a prolonged illness, family sources said on Sunday.
The 85 year old had been undergoing treatment for multiple health complications for several weeks. He was first admitted to the Chest Diseases Hospital in Srinagar after his health deteriorated. Doctors later shifted him to SMHS Hospital for specialised care before referring him to AIIMS Delhi for advanced treatment.
Despite continued medical attention, Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh breathed his last at the premier healthcare institute, leaving family members and relatives in mourning.
Family sources said he had been battling age-related ailments and other medical issues for a long time. His condition reportedly worsened in recent days, prompting doctors to recommend treatment outside Jammu and Kashmir.
Engineer Rashid, who represents the Baramulla parliamentary constituency, is currently lodged in jail. News of his father’s demise has drawn condolences from political leaders, supporters and members of the public across Kashmir.
