  • Historic first: RSS centenary march echoes through Jammu University campus

JAMMU, Oct 3: The Swami Vivekananda Vidyarthi Shakha of the University of Jammu marked a historic moment by celebrating the 100th Foundation Day of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with a solemn and spirited programme held within the university campus. The event featured a Path Sanchalan, a disciplined march by RSS Swayamsevaks, which was conducted for the first time ever inside a university in Jammu and Kashmir, adding significant symbolic importance to the centenary celebrations.

A total of 113 Swayamsevaks, including students, research scholars, teaching faculty, and non-teaching staff, participated in full uniform, reflecting discipline, unity, and organizational spirit. Their presence lent a distinct vibrancy to the programme, drawing attention from onlookers and participants alike. Additionally, 96 guests, including members of the university community and residents from staff quarters, joined the event, making it a collective celebration of cultural and national values. A Shastra Pujan ceremony was also performed as part of the programme, symbolizing reverence for tradition and heritage.

The chief speaker, Mukesh Kumar, Prant Pracharak of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, delivered a thought-provoking address emphasizing the need to rekindle nationalism and patriotism among the youth and all citizens. He reflected on India’s long history of cultural subjugation and colonial rule under Mughal and British empires, which he said deeply impacted the nation’s civilizational consciousness. The path forward, he asserted, lies in rebuilding national self-confidence, restoring cultural pride, and fostering unity rooted in shared heritage.

Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director of IIM Jammu and chief guest for the occasion, recalled his personal association with the Sangh and lauded the RSS for its enduring role in nation-building. He highlighted the organization’s contribution to nurturing patriotism, shaping youth character, and strengthening the social fabric of the nation. Sardar Jasveer Singh graced the event as a distinguished guest, further underscoring the significance of the centennial celebration.
