GTA VI Pre-Orders Begin: PS5 Startup Screen, Release Date, Price and Physical Edition Details

Sony rolls out an unprecedented PS5 startup screen takeover as Rockstar confirms GTA VI launch date, pricing and physical edition plans.

India, June 27 : PlayStation has kicked off its largest-ever promotional campaign for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI), introducing a first of its kind console wide branding initiative as pre-orders officially went live. The campaign includes a customised PS5 startup animation, PlayStation App redesign and extensive platform wide marketing ahead of one of gaming’s most anticipated releases.

The promotion comes after Rockstar Games confirmed the game’s official launch date, pricing structure and launch editions. At the same time, fresh reports have fuelled speculation over a future disc-based physical edition and the possible standalone release of GTA Online.

PS5 Welcome Screen Gets GTA VI Makeover

Beginning June 24, PlayStation users noticed a unique GTA VI startup animation appearing before the PS5 dashboard loaded. The interactive screen encourages players to pre-order the title and can be permanently dismissed after viewing.

The feature represents a major milestone for Sony, as GTA VI becomes the first game to replace the standard PS5 startup experience with a dedicated promotional animation. In addition, Sony has refreshed the PlayStation App branding using GTA VI-inspired purple and pink visuals, extending the game’s marketing across its digital ecosystem.

Rockstar Announces Launch Date and Pricing

Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that GTA VI will release worldwide on November 19, 2026, with pre-loading scheduled to begin on November 12.

The game will be available in two editions:

Standard Edition priced at $79.99
Ultimate Edition priced at $99.99, offering exclusive digital bonuses and additional in-game content.

Players purchasing the Standard Edition will also have the option to upgrade to the Ultimate Edition at a later stage.

Retail Version to Initially Ship With Download Code

Rockstar has also settled months of speculation surrounding the physical version by confirming that launch retail copies will contain a download code instead of a game disc.

However, reports from Polish gaming outlet PPE.pl, citing insider Graczdari, suggest this code-in-box version may only be available during the initial release window. According to the report, dedicated PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X disc editions could arrive in December 2026, potentially ahead of the holiday shopping season.

The report further claims Rockstar Support informed a customer that current pre-orders apply only to the digital version, while a traditional physical edition may become available later.

Rockstar has yet to officially announce any timeline for a disc-based release.

Xbox File Listings Hint at Separate GTA Online Release

Meanwhile, newly discovered Xbox backend files have sparked fresh speculation regarding GTA VI’s multiplayer component.

Content creator Synth Potato, referencing information from GlowDevs, reported that Xbox listings separate Story Mode from additional downloadable content, including Ultimate Edition bonuses and the Vintage Vice City Pack.

The discovery has prompted speculation that Rockstar could once again launch GTA Online as a standalone product, similar to previous releases. However, the company has not confirmed whether a separate multiplayer version is currently in development or when it might become available.

Massive Marketing Push Signals Blockbuster Launch

Sony’s unprecedented console-level promotion reflects the enormous expectations surrounding GTA VI, which is already shaping up to be one of the biggest entertainment launches in gaming history.

While Rockstar has now confirmed the game’s release schedule, pricing and digital launch editions, reports regarding a future disc edition and standalone GTA Online remain unofficial. Fans are expected to closely monitor further announcements as the November release date approaches.
