NEW DELHI, Aug 21: India and Nepal have reaffirmed their commitment to closer cooperation on border management and security, with the two sides reviewing a wide range of bilateral concerns during the 14th meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG).
The two day meeting concluded in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on Friday, according to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The discussions covered the broader framework of bilateral cooperation related to border security and management. Both sides emphasised the need to further strengthen coordination and maintain regular engagement on issues affecting their shared border.
The meeting also focused on the maintenance of boundary pillars and the effective use of existing border infrastructure. The discussions underlined the importance of ensuring that border facilities remain functional and support effective management of the frontier.
India and Nepal further exchanged views on improving institutional coordination and enhancing capacity building across various sectors. Both delegations agreed to continue working together in these areas to strengthen cooperation and address emerging challenges.
The Indian delegation was headed by Pausumi Basu, Joint Secretary (Border Management-I) in the Ministry of Home Affairs, while the Nepali side was led by Ananda Kafle, Joint Secretary in Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs.
The JWG serves as an important mechanism for India and Nepal to address border-related concerns and strengthen cooperation between their respective security and administrative authorities.
The two countries also agreed that the next meeting of the Joint Working Group would be held in Nepal on a mutually convenient date.
The latest round of talks reflects the continued efforts by both neighbours to improve coordination on border management while maintaining regular institutional dialogue on security and infrastructure related matters.
