India Strengthens Telemedicine Services in Remote Regions

Digital healthcare platforms helping patients access specialist consultations

India, May 27: India is expanding telemedicine services in remote and underserved regions to improve healthcare accessibility and reduce the burden on urban hospitals.

Officials said digital consultation platforms are being integrated with primary health centres in hilly and rural areas, enabling patients to connect with specialists through video consultations.

Healthcare workers stated that telemedicine has proven particularly effective in improving follow up care and reducing travel costs for patients.

The initiative is also expected to strengthen maternal healthcare, mental health support and chronic disease management in remote communities.

Experts noted that improved internet connectivity and digital health infrastructure have accelerated the adoption of virtual healthcare services across the country.

Authorities said additional investments are planned to enhance digital medical records and remote diagnostic capabilities.
