NEW DELHI, Aug 19: India has invited Japanese companies to expand their investments and partnerships in the country as New Delhi seeks to deepen economic cooperation with one of its key Asian business partners.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal made the appeal on Tuesday while engaging with Japanese businesses, emphasising opportunities for greater investment and collaboration between companies from the two countries.
The discussions come against the backdrop of India’s efforts to attract fresh foreign investment, strengthen domestic manufacturing and integrate Indian businesses more deeply into global supply chains.
Japan has remained an important economic partner for India, with Japanese companies having a presence across sectors including automobiles, electronics, infrastructure, financial services and manufacturing.
Greater Japanese participation could help India expand industrial capacity while providing businesses with access to advanced technology, investment and international expertise.
For Japanese companies, India’s large domestic market and expanding manufacturing ecosystem offer opportunities for long-term growth. New Delhi has also been encouraging foreign firms to increase their production base in the country as part of its broader industrial development strategy.
The government is seeking to build stronger investment partnerships that can support employment, exports and technology transfer.
The latest outreach to Japanese businesses is therefore part of India’s wider push to position the country as an attractive destination for global capital and a major manufacturing and investment hub in Asia.
