DUBAI, Sep 13: India produced a dominant all round performance to defeat Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the Women’s Asia Cup final on Sunday, securing a record eighth title.
After being asked to bat, India posted 183 for five, with Shafali Verma leading the charge with a blistering 68. Smriti Mandhana also made a valuable 59 as the pair provided India with a strong platform.
Shafali’s aggressive innings included a rapid half-century, while Mandhana anchored the innings during their productive partnership. India, however, lost momentum slightly towards the closing stages as Sri Lanka’s bowlers restricted the scoring.
Sri Lanka struggled to build a meaningful chase against India’s disciplined attack. Sree Charani claimed four wickets, while Deepti Sharma also played an important role with the ball.
The Sri Lankan batting line-up failed to maintain the required scoring rate and was eventually bowled out well short of the target.
The comprehensive victory underlined India’s dominance in the regional competition and added another major title to the team’s record.
