DUBAI, Oct 13: India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Vipul, attended the funeral of Indian national Mohammed Yousef Ali, who was killed in an attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, and conveyed condolences to his bereaved family, the Indian Embassy said.
In a social media post late Monday night, the Indian mission said the ambassador and embassy officials joined Ali’s relatives and well wishers at the funeral service.
Vipul expressed sympathy to the grieving family and prayed for the departed soul’s eternal peace. He also assured the family that the embassy would continue to provide necessary assistance and support.
Ali was killed in the October 10 attack at Riyadh’s international airport, which left several people injured, including 10 Indian nationals. Saudi Arabia has blamed Yemen’s Houthi rebels for the incident.
The Indian Embassy assisted Ali’s family in completing the formalities required for the funeral, which was held in Riyadh in accordance with the family’s wishes.
Meanwhile, embassy officials visited hospitals to check on the condition of Indian nationals injured in the attack. The mission said it remained in regular contact with their families and was extending all possible assistance during their treatment and recovery.
India has strongly condemned the incident, calling repeated attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia completely unacceptable. New Delhi has urged that such attacks cease immediately.
Following the incident, the Indian Embassy reiterated its security advisory for Indian nationals living in Saudi Arabia, urging them to remain alert, stay indoors whenever necessary and comply with instructions issued by local authorities.
The attack also claimed the lives of four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals and one citizen each from Palestine, the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Sudan.
The Indian mission said it would continue coordinating with the relevant authorities and supporting affected Indian nationals and their families.
