BEIJING, Sep 24: India’s Ambassador to China Vikram Doraiswami felicitated Ayurveda practitioners C K Shafeeque and Dhanwantari Jha during an Ayurveda Day programme organised by the Indian Embassy in Beijing.
The event on Wednesday featured interactive workshops highlighting Ayurveda’s approach to holistic health, along with sessions focused on stress management and improving sleep. Participants also explored yoga, millet based foods and Ayurvedic products through dedicated stalls.
The Indian mission said the programme was held on September 23 to showcase India’s traditional wellness system and its relevance to daily health and wellbeing.
Doraiswami addressed the gathering and honoured Shafeeque and Jha, who led sessions on the basic principles of Ayurveda, daily wellness care, stress relief and healthy sleep. Several Chinese nationals participated in the workshops and were introduced to practical aspects of Ayurvedic practices.
Shafeeque, a Kerala native who practises Ayurveda in Guangzhou, regularly conducts lectures and demonstrations in different Chinese cities. He also provides practical training in therapies such as Ayurveda massage and Shirodhara.
The embassy said the yoga and Ayurveda stalls, together with food counters offering millet-based dishes and Ayurvedic products, gave visitors an opportunity to experience various elements of India’s traditional wellness culture.
Meanwhile, the Indian Consulate in Shanghai marked Ayurveda through a month-long series of programmes. Consul General Pratik Mathur interacted with medical professionals at Shanghai United Family Hospital and students at Shanghai International Studies University.
The consulate also organised a lecture by Jha on “Ayurveda & Mental Wellbeing”, further highlighting the traditional system’s approach to mental and emotional wellness.
