India, Mar 31 : A fresh leak surrounding the iPhone 18 Pro display upgrade has surfaced online, offering an early glimpse at what could be a significant design shift. An alleged prototype image shared by X user @earlyappleleaks indicates that Apple may reduce the size of the Dynamic Island, a feature introduced in recent iPhone models.
The image reportedly shows a smaller Dynamic Island, with a flashlight placed over the display corner revealing a circular punch-hole beneath the screen. This detail has sparked speculation that Apple could be relocating the Face ID sensor under the display, allowing for a cleaner and more immersive screen experience. The leak aligns with earlier reports suggesting the Cupertino-based tech giant is working to minimize the footprint of the Dynamic Island in its upcoming Pro lineup.
In addition to design changes, Apple is also said to be exploring new colour options. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is currently testing a deep red finish for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. This follows the popularity of the Cosmic Orange variant seen in the iPhone 17 Pro series, particularly in China where it gained traction due to its resemblance to Hermès’ signature shade. While red appears to be the leading contender, Apple may retain the orange option as well, though both colours could be too similar to coexist in the final lineup.
On the hardware front, the upcoming Pro models are expected to be powered by Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip, which is likely to be built using a 2nm process. The chip is also rumoured to adopt advanced Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM) packaging, delivering improved performance, efficiency, and compactness.
Another major upgrade could come in the form of Apple’s in house modem, replacing third-party components for the first time in Pro models. This transition is anticipated to enhance battery life significantly, especially when combined with the efficiency gains of the new chipset.
As for the launch timeline, Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro models during its traditional September event. However, reports suggest a possible shift in strategy, with the standard iPhone 18 potentially delayed and introduced later, possibly in March alongside a new iPhone Air variant.
