NEW DELHI, Sep 12: Zahra Pezeshkian, daughter of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, visited the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya and the BRICS Bazaar in New Delhi on Saturday, taking a glimpse into India’s political legacy, traditional arts and cultural heritage.
Her visit came on the opening day of the two day BRICS summit being held at Bharat Mandapam, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed leaders from member and partner countries.
While the summit focused on issues concerning emerging economies and the Global South, family members accompanying several visiting leaders used the occasion to explore some of the capital’s cultural attractions.
Pezeshkian visited the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya amid tight security. The museum, located in the Teen Murti Bhawan complex, documents the journeys, contributions and legacies of India’s Prime Ministers.
The Iranian Embassy in India shared details of the visit on X, saying the Iranian leader’s daughter explored the museum and its exhibits highlighting the country’s democratic journey.
The embassy also posted a video showing her visit to the museum.
She later visited the BRICS Bazaar at the National Crafts Museum, located near the summit venue. The bazaar features traditional arts, crafts and cultural products representing BRICS member and partner nations.
Union Women and Child Development Minister Annpurna Devi welcomed her at the bazaar and said she had the opportunity to show the delegation around the exhibition.
The minister highlighted the range of traditions displayed at the venue, including Brazilian clay art and Belarusian willow weaving, describing the bazaar as a platform celebrating the cultural diversity and creative traditions of the BRICS community.
Philippine First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, who is accompanying President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr., also visited the Prime Minister’s Museum, according to reports.
The BRICS summit is being held on September 12 and 13, with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and other leaders participating.
The grouping originally consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It expanded in 2024 with the inclusion of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, while Indonesia joined in 2025.
Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam became BRICS partner countries in 2025.
