Jammu Winter-Zone Schools to Hold Classes 1-9 Summative Exams From October 12

Directorate of School Education Jammu announces a common examination timetable for government and recognised private schools across the winter-zone areas. Jammu Winter-Zone Schools to Begin Summative Exams From October 12

JAMMU, Oct 3: The Directorate of School Education Jammu has announced a uniform schedule for summative assessments for students of Classes 1 to 9 in government and recognised private schools across the winter-zone areas of the Jammu Division.

According to the schedule notified by the Directorate, the examinations will begin on October 12 and continue in phases for different classes. The decision is intended to provide a common examination calendar for schools operating under the winter-zone academic arrangement.

The timetable covers students from the primary level through Class 9. Examinations have been distributed across different dates according to class groups and subjects, with most papers scheduled between October 12 and October 21.

The Directorate has directed schools and education authorities to follow the notified timetable. The examination schedule was issued through an official notification dated October 1 and subsequently circulated among concerned educational authorities for implementation.

For students in Classes 1 and 2, the assessment programme will begin with Mathematics on October 12. English will be conducted on October 13, followed by Kashmiri, Dogri or another local language on October 14. The Hindi or Urdu examination is scheduled for October 17.

The timetable for Classes 3 to 5 follows a similar sequence during the initial days. Students will take Mathematics on October 12 and English on October 13. The paper in Kashmiri, Dogri or the applicable local language will be held on October 14.

The younger students will then appear for Environmental Studies on October 15. Their Hindi or Urdu paper is scheduled for October 17, completing the listed assessment programme for this group.

For students studying in Classes 6 to 8, the examination cycle is more extensive because of the larger number of subjects. Mathematics will be conducted on October 12, followed by English on October 13 and Kashmiri, Dogri or the relevant local language on October 14.

The Science examination for Classes 6 to 8 is scheduled for October 15. Students will then take Hindi or Urdu on October 17 before appearing for Social Sciences on October 19.

Class 9 students will follow largely the same academic sequence as Classes 6 to 8. Their papers in Mathematics, English, local language, Science, Hindi or Urdu and Social Sciences will be conducted according to the notified dates.

In addition to these subjects, Class 9 students will have a Vocational Education paper on October 21. The inclusion of the additional examination reflects the broader subject structure at the secondary level.

The Directorate has specified an examination window of 10 am to 1 pm, although the exact duration of individual papers will depend on the subject and class. Schools have been asked to make the necessary arrangements so that students can appear for their assessments according to the prescribed schedule.

The common timetable is particularly significant for the winter-zone schools of the Jammu Division, where academic calendars differ from those followed in other parts of the region. A standard schedule allows schools within the designated areas to conduct assessments according to a coordinated framework.

The notification has been circulated to several levels of the education administration. Deputy Commissioners, Chief Education Officers, principals of District Institutes of Education and Training and other concerned officials have been informed about the schedule.

Joint Directors and divisional and district-level authorities have also been asked to ensure that the examination programme is implemented in the institutions under their respective jurisdictions.

For schools, the announcement means that preparations for the assessments will need to be completed before the first paper on October 12. Teachers will have to finalise classroom revision, examination material and other arrangements while school administrations will need to communicate the dates clearly to students and parents.

Students in the lower classes will begin their assessments with Mathematics, while older students will have a broader sequence of core subjects. The arrangement separates papers across several days rather than placing multiple major examinations together.

The timetable also gives students a defined preparation period before the beginning of the assessment cycle. Schools can use the days before October 12 to complete revision and provide students with information about examination timings and subject requirements.

For parents, the notified schedule provides a clear calendar for the assessment period. Families can plan around the examination dates and ensure that children are prepared for each paper.

The Directorate’s notification applies to government and recognised private schools in the winter-zone areas covered by the Jammu Division’s education administration. Individual schools are expected to follow the common schedule rather than independently fixing different dates for the listed summative assessments.

The examination programme also highlights the importance of coordination between schools and district education authorities. Since the schedule has been circulated through multiple administrative channels, officials at different levels will be involved in monitoring implementation.

The Class 9 schedule extends to October 21 because of the additional Vocational Education examination. For Classes 6 to 8, the final listed paper is Social Sciences on October 19, while students in Classes 3 to 5 complete their scheduled papers with Hindi or Urdu on October 17.

The progression of examinations has been arranged according to age groups and curriculum requirements. Students in Classes 1 and 2 have a shorter list of subjects, while the number of papers increases for students in the middle and secondary classes.

The Directorate’s decision provides schools with a common reference point for conducting the assessments and reduces uncertainty over examination dates. It also allows district authorities to coordinate administrative arrangements around a single timetable.

The assessment programme will be an important academic exercise for students as schools move through the latter part of the academic session. Teachers will assess students across languages, mathematics, environmental studies, science and social sciences, depending on their class.

For Class 9 students, the inclusion of vocational education gives the examination cycle an additional component beyond the conventional academic subjects. Students will therefore need to prepare for the vocational paper scheduled after the Social Sciences examination.

Schools have been instructed to take necessary action on the notification, while concerned authorities have been provided with the timetable for monitoring and coordination.

The first examinations will begin on October 12, leaving schools with a short period to complete their preparations. Students and parents in the affected winter-zone areas are expected to follow the dates issued by the Directorate and remain in contact with their respective schools for any institution-specific instructions concerning examination arrangements.

The uniform timetable marks the beginning of the summative assessment cycle for Classes 1 to 9 across the designated winter-zone schools of Jammu Division. With papers spread across the period from October 12 to October 21, students will have separate preparation windows between most examinations.
