Jammu, Apr 4: The Cyber Police Station Jammu reported a strong crackdown on online crime in the first quarter of 2026, resolving 11 cases along with 1,259 cyber fraud complaints and preventing financial losses of over Rs 3.52 crore.
According to officials, the disposed cases included five pending investigations, reflecting progress in clearing backlog matters. Authorities also carried out coordinated operations across states, leading to the arrest of five individuals involved in fraudulent activities.
The police further addressed numerous grievances submitted through online portals, ensuring timely closure of complaints. In a parallel effort, 42 missing mobile phones valued at approximately Rs 8.4 lakh were successfully traced and returned.
To strengthen public awareness, the department organized 23 outreach programmes focusing on safe digital practices. Additionally, 10 students from the Central University completed internships at the Cyber Police Station, gaining hands-on experience in cybercrime investigation.
Officials highlighted a sharp increase in sophisticated scams, including cases of so called “digital arrests,” AI-based voice cloning, and deceptive investment schemes. Fraudsters are increasingly posing as law enforcement personnel to intimidate victims and extract money.
Citizens have been advised to stay alert and act quickly in case of fraud. Police emphasized the importance of reporting incidents immediately via the national helpline 1930 or through the official cybercrime reporting portal to improve chances of recovering stolen funds.
