Jammu Railway Division Nets Rs 66.50 Lakh in Intensive Ticket Checking Drive During May

Special enforcement campaign detects over 12,600 violations; railway authorities intensify efforts to ensure fair and safe travel

JAMMU, June 1: Northern Railway’s Jammu Division has recovered Rs 66.50 lakh through an extensive ticket checking campaign conducted across its network during May 2026. The month long exercise was aimed at discouraging ticketless travel, preventing misuse of railway services, and safeguarding public revenue.

Official data released by the division revealed that enforcement teams booked 12,693 passengers for various ticket-related violations by May 31. The action resulted in the collection of Rs 66,50,165 in penalties and excess charges from offenders.

Railway authorities said inspection teams carried out rigorous checks at stations, onboard trains, and across platform areas throughout the division. Cases were registered against passengers travelling without valid tickets, using improper travel documents, entering platforms without platform tickets, and committing other ticketing violations.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said that unauthorized travel adversely affects railway operations and causes inconvenience to genuine passengers. He noted that such practices often lead to overcrowding, illegal occupation of reserved seats, and operational challenges that impact passenger comfort and safety.

According to officials, dedicated checking squads have been deployed regularly to strengthen compliance and improve discipline among travellers. The drive, they said, was designed not only to recover revenue losses but also to educate passengers about following railway travel regulations.

Passengers have been advised to secure valid tickets before commencing their journeys through reservation counters, ticket booking centres, the UTS mobile application, or the IRCTC online platform. Railway authorities also appealed to visitors entering station premises for receiving or seeing off passengers to purchase platform tickets as required.

The division cautioned that travelling without proper authorization can invite penalties and legal proceedings under Sections 137 and 138 of the Railways Act, 1989.

Officials emphasized that similar enforcement initiatives will continue in the coming months to promote transparency, improve passenger services, and ensure a hassle-free travel experience for law-abiding commuters.
