Jammu-Srinagar National Highway Grapples with Landslide Fallout: Traffic Paralyzed Amidst Ramban District Blockade

Transportation Chaos: Jammu-Srinagar National Highway Seized by Landslide Havoc at Gangroo, Ramban District

SRINAGAR, Apr 22:  The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway faced a blockade for traffic following a landslide occurrence at the Gangroo area within the Ramban district of the Jammu division on Monday morning. The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police issued a traffic update at 0800 hrs, alerting commuters about the landslide and advising against embarking on journeys without confirmation from Traffic Control Units (TCUs).

This crucial 270-km highway serves as the sole all-weather road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country. However, it has been experiencing recurrent disruptions over the past five days, primarily attributed to heavy rainfall-induced landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones from the hillocks. The affected areas include Mehad, Gangroo, Kishtwari Pather, and Dalwas, situated between Nashri and Banihal Tunnels, contributing to the ongoing challenges in maintaining traffic flow along this vital transportation artery.
