Kulgam, June 1: Jammu and Kashmir’s administration has reaffirmed its determination to eliminate the drug menace, with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announcing a series of decisive actions aimed at dismantling narcotics networks operating across the Union Territory.
Addressing a public gathering in Kulgam on Monday, the Lieutenant Governor said the government has adopted a comprehensive strategy that combines law enforcement, public awareness, and community engagement to tackle substance abuse and illegal drug trade. He emphasized that protecting young people from addiction remains one of the administration’s highest priorities.
Highlighting the scale of the ongoing campaign, Sinha said security and law-enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance and operations against individuals involved in narcotics distribution. These efforts have resulted in hundreds of criminal cases being registered and a significant number of suspects being taken into custody as authorities continue to tighten their grip on drug-related activities.
The Lieutenant Governor noted that the administration is pursuing strict legal and administrative measures to deter those linked to the illicit trade. As part of the crackdown, authorities have initiated punitive actions affecting various privileges and documents of individuals allegedly connected to narcotics offences. According to him, these measures are intended to disrupt the networks that facilitate drug trafficking and prevent repeat offences.
Sinha underscored that the challenge extends beyond policing and requires active cooperation from every section of society. He called upon parents, teachers, religious scholars, social organisations, and local communities to work together in creating awareness about the harmful consequences of drug addiction.
He stressed that educational institutions have a critical role in guiding young people towards constructive activities and helping them make informed choices. The administration, he said, is also focusing on awareness initiatives designed to educate citizens about the social, economic, and health-related impacts of substance abuse.
The Lieutenant Governor urged the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to reject narcotics and contribute positively to society through education, innovation, sports, and entrepreneurship. He said the region’s future depends on empowering young generations and protecting them from destructive influences.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Sinha stated that the anti-narcotics drive will continue with full force and that authorities remain determined to dismantle every network involved in the illegal trade. He said sustained efforts, combined with public support, would help create safer communities and pave the way for a healthier and more prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
The administration, he added, remains focused on achieving lasting results through coordinated action, stronger enforcement mechanisms, and widespread public participation in the campaign against drug abuse.
