ANANTNAG, Sept 15: Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar declared on Sunday that while there is a prevailing silence in Jammu and Kashmir, his party is committed to establishing genuine peace once elected to power. Kumar emphasized the distinction between mere silence and actual peace, asserting that his party’s leadership would usher in the latter.
Kanhaiya Kumar Calls J&K Election a Battle of Ideologies, Promises Real Peace Over BJP’s Division
Kumar was in Jammu and Kashmir to support All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir, who is contesting the Dooru Assembly seat in the upcoming elections. Kumar highlighted the widespread anger among the people of Jammu and Kashmir, citing a decade of perceived oppression as the root cause.
“There is a palpable silence in the region, but true peace will only come when we address the real issues,” Kumar stated. “The public’s frustration is evident, and we anticipate a high voter turnout this time, driven by a desire to combat oppression, unemployment, and the denial of statehood rights.”
He accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of harboring “ill intentions” and described independent candidates as “puppets” of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Kumar framed the upcoming election as a battle between two distinct forces: those spreading hatred and those advocating for love and justice.
“This election represents a clash between two ideologies,” Kumar explained. “On one side is the National Conference-Congress coalition, advocating for justice and the restoration of rights. On the other side is the BJP-led alliance, which embodies divisiveness and injustice.”
Kumar called for a unified vote to prevent any division that could benefit the BJP. He underscored that the election is not just about choosing a party but about reclaiming the rights and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections are set to be held in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the results to be counted on October 8.
