Karnataka to Introduce AI Guidelines for Medical Education

State plans regulatory framework for responsible use of artificial intelligence in healthcare training

BENGALURU, May 16: Karnataka is preparing to introduce new guidelines governing the use of artificial intelligence in medical education, signalling a major policy shift toward technology assisted healthcare training.

Officials from the Department of Medical Education said the framework is being developed to ensure responsible and effective integration of AI tools into classrooms, research and clinical learning environments.

Authorities believe artificial intelligence can improve diagnostic training, medical simulations and academic research while helping institutions manage growing healthcare education demands.

Medical experts said AI technologies are increasingly being used worldwide for imaging analysis, predictive diagnostics and personalised learning systems. Karnataka’s proposed guidelines aim to standardise adoption and address ethical concerns.

The state government also plans to encourage partnerships between hospitals, universities and technology companies to strengthen innovation in healthcare education.

Educators noted that future medical professionals will need familiarity with AI-assisted clinical systems as healthcare increasingly becomes data-driven.

However, specialists cautioned that human judgment and patient interaction must remain central to medical practice despite technological advancements.

Healthcare policy analysts said the initiative could serve as a model for other states exploring digital transformation in medical education and training.
