Jammu, May 4: In a decisive action against unauthorized development, the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) on Monday launched an extensive demolition campaign along the Jammu Ring Road corridor, dismantling more than 15 illegally constructed structures.
The operation formed part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to ensure planned urban expansion and prevent unlawful encroachments in rapidly developing areas surrounding the city.
Unauthorized Structures Removed for Safety Concerns
Officials associated with the drive stated that the demolished buildings had been erected without obtaining mandatory approvals from the competent authorities. The constructions were reportedly in direct violation of approved master plans, land use policies, and building regulations laid down by the authority.
According to preliminary findings, several of the structures were considered unsafe and posed potential risks to nearby residential and commercial areas. Authorities observed that some constructions had extended into sensitive zones, creating concerns over public safety and obstructing organized development.
Enforcement Wing Leads Demolition Exercise
The demolition operation was carried out by the Enforcement Wing of the JDA with assistance from the district administration and police authorities. Heavy machinery was deployed to clear the encroachments, while security personnel remained stationed at the site to maintain law and order during the exercise.
Officials confirmed that the drive was completed peacefully and no untoward incident was reported during the proceedings.
Prior Notices Issued to Violators
JDA authorities said all legal procedures were followed before initiating the demolition. Notices had been served to the individuals responsible for the unauthorized constructions, granting them adequate time to respond and comply with regulations.
Despite repeated warnings and opportunities for corrective action, the violators allegedly failed to regularize or remove the illegal structures, prompting the authority to proceed with demolition measures.
JDA Reaffirms Commitment to Planned Development
Reiterating its commitment to systematic urban planning, the Jammu Development Authority urged residents and property owners to strictly adhere to building laws and secure all required permissions before starting any construction work.
Officials emphasized that unauthorized structures not only breach legal norms but also create long-term civic and safety challenges, affecting infrastructure development and public convenience.
The authority further warned that similar enforcement drives will continue across the region and strict action will be taken against violators without any relaxation.
