Budget reduction for UGC shocking, matter of grave concern: AICC Gen Secretary G.A. Mir Says BJP-RSS wants to destroy India's Education Sector

New Delhi,July 26, 2024: The University Grants Commission (UGC) is a statutory body and was supposed to be the only grant-providing agency in the country, but unfortunately Modi Govt has snatched its power, thus crushing its autonomy.

UGC’s functioning of ‘Granting’ funds has been grabbed by the Higher Education Financing Agency – a venture between Canara Bank and the Ministry of Education.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir said this while commenting on the undermining UGC’s autonomy by the Modi Govt.

Mir said snatching powers from UGC thereby crushing its autonomy will not only induce colleges and universities to introduce more self-financing courses but will also increase the financial burden on SC, ST, OBC, and EWS students, who are not able to pay hefty amounts for getting education and securing their future.

Modi Govt’s attack on India’s Education System continues unabated in the form the of Controlling Universities, Strangulating the funds of Autonomous Institutions besides undermining their Autonomy, besides destroying Public Education through Cronyism and betraying the Youth, Mir added and demanded that the functioning and authority of the UGC must not be compromised as that it will have serious repercussions on India Education system.

Mir blamed the BJP RSS for destroying India’s education system and said this measure would push the youth towards darkness.
