Chandigarh, Apr 20: In a significant crackdown on organized crime, Punjab Police have dismantled a narcotics and illegal arms network in Hoshiarpur district, arresting four individuals and seizing a substantial quantity of contraband along with weapons.
According to Gaurav Yadav, the operation led to the recovery of 9.925 kilograms of heroin, along with two foreign-made pistols, eight magazines, and 40 live cartridges. The arrests mark what officials describe as a major breakthrough in efforts to curb drug trafficking and arms smuggling in the region.
The police revealed that the accused were operating as local conduits for handlers based outside India, facilitating both the distribution of narcotics and the supply of illegal firearms. These handlers are believed to be part of a larger transnational network that exploits border vulnerabilities and local contacts to expand operations.
The case has been registered at the Garhshankar Police Station, where authorities have initiated a detailed investigation to uncover the full extent of the network. Officials are currently working to trace both forward and backward linkages, aiming to identify additional associates, suppliers, and potential buyers connected to the operation.
