JAMMU, Jan 20: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has announced that National Voters’ Day will be observed across the Union Territory on January 25, 2026, with the central theme “My India, My Vote,” underscoring the importance of citizen participation in the democratic process.
According to directions issued by the General Administration Department, all government departments, public sector undertakings, and educational institutions have been instructed to ensure active and meaningful celebrations of the day. The objective is to strengthen voter awareness, particularly among young and first-time voters, and to reinforce the values of democratic participation.
As part of the observance, a range of activities including debates, discussions, and competitions such as drawing, painting, essay writing, and cultural programmes will be organised in schools and colleges. These activities are aimed at encouraging informed participation and fostering a sense of civic responsibility among students and the wider public.
In line with the advisory issued by the Election Commission of India, the main programmes are to be held at 11 am or at any other suitable time during the day. In areas where January 24 and 25 fall on holidays, authorities have been permitted to organise the celebrations on January 23 to ensure maximum participation.
Officials and staff will also administer the National Voters’ Day pledge during the events, reaffirming the commitment to uphold democratic values and participate responsibly in elections. To amplify the message, photographs and updates from the celebrations will be shared on official social media platforms using the hashtag #NVD2026.
The Government has directed Administrative Secretaries, Divisional Commissioners, and Deputy Commissioners to personally oversee the arrangements and ensure strict compliance with the guidelines. Emphasis has been laid on making the celebrations purposeful rather than symbolic, with a focus on outreach and engagement at the grassroots level.
Officials said the observance of National Voters’ Day provides an important opportunity to reconnect citizens with the electoral process and to highlight the role of every vote in shaping the future of the nation. The coordinated effort across departments and institutions is expected to give the campaign a wide reach and meaningful impact across Jammu and Kashmir.
