Jammu, Mar 26: The ongoing Chaitra Navratri has witnessed an overwhelming influx of pilgrims at the revered Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, with over 2.69 lakh devotees offering prayers during the first seven days of the festival.
Officials from the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board confirmed that the pilgrimage is progressing smoothly despite the heavy rush, with 2,69,716 श्रद्धालुओं having paid obeisance till March 25.
Devotees chanting “Jai Mata Di” continue to undertake the spiritual trek along the 13-kilometre route from Katra to the Bhawan, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with devotion and उत्साह.
The nine-day festival, dedicated to the worship of Goddess Navdurga, began on March 19 and will conclude on March 27. Daily footfall has remained consistently high, reflecting the shrine’s significance during Navratri, one of its peak pilgrimage seasons.
To manage the surge, authorities temporarily halted registrations on two occasions, ensuring crowd control and safety. The entire route from the base camp to the sanctum has been illuminated and adorned with decorative lighting and flowers, enhancing the festive spirit.
A multi layered security setup involving police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), paramilitary units, and quick response teams has been deployed to maintain order and safety throughout the Yatra.
Additionally, the Shrine Board has stationed volunteers along the track to assist pilgrims and facilitate smooth movement. Wireless communication systems have also been introduced this year to improve coordination among security and management teams.
The spiritual significance of the occasion was marked by the commencement of the Shat Chandi Maha Yagya on March 19, with Vedic chants resonating across the shrine, invoking peace, prosperity, and well being.
