New Delhi, July 27: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has expanded its digital learning initiatives by introducing updated Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital literacy modules for schools across the country. The new educational content is designed to equip students with practical technology skills while promoting responsible and ethical use of digital platforms.
According to education officials, the revised modules focus on artificial intelligence, coding fundamentals, cybersecurity awareness, online safety and responsible use of emerging technologies. The initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages the integration of technology into classroom learning.
The updated material has been developed for students in middle and secondary classes, with age-appropriate lessons that combine theoretical concepts with hands-on activities. Teachers will receive structured lesson plans and digital teaching aids to make classroom sessions more interactive.
NCERT said the programme is intended to help students understand how AI-powered technologies are being used in everyday life, including healthcare, banking, transportation and education. The curriculum also introduces ethical considerations such as data privacy, misinformation, algorithmic bias and responsible digital behaviour.
Schools participating in the programme will be encouraged to organise coding clubs, innovation challenges and technology-based projects to improve practical learning. Students will also have access to online learning resources, quizzes and activity-based assignments through digital education platforms.
Education experts have welcomed the initiative, noting that digital literacy has become an essential skill for future employment and higher education. They believe introducing AI concepts at the school level will help students develop problem-solving abilities, critical thinking and creativity from an early age.
Teacher training workshops are expected to begin in phases to familiarise educators with the revised curriculum and classroom practices. Schools have also been advised to strengthen digital infrastructure to support technology-enabled learning.
Officials said the expanded AI curriculum represents another step towards preparing Indian students for a rapidly evolving digital economy while ensuring they become informed, responsible and innovative users of technology.
