New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers and leaders of NDA alliance partners attended the coalition’s weekly parliamentary meeting on Tuesday, where discussions focused on India’s achievements in global sports and expanding employment opportunities for young people.
The meeting, known as ‘Mangal Milan’, was held at the Parliament House complex and featured presentations on the government’s sports initiatives, job creation efforts and various social security programmes. Leaders highlighted India’s growing presence at international sporting events and the expansion of employment avenues across sectors.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya presented details on the country’s progress in athletics, linking the improvement to the sports policies introduced by the government after 2014. He said India has witnessed better performances at major global competitions, including the Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
A separate presentation focused on employment generation and opportunities available for the country’s youth. According to Tiwari, the meeting highlighted the rise in job opportunities during the last decade and discussed government initiatives aimed at boosting employment.
The BJP leader also said members were briefed about various social security schemes launched by the government to support citizens.
The meeting also drew attention as BJP president Nitin Nabin attended the gathering alongside Prime Minister Modi, shortly after the party faced defeat in the Bankipur assembly by-election in Bihar. The seat had fallen vacant after Nabin moved to the Rajya Sabha following his appointment as BJP president.
Several NDA allies, including representatives from JD(U), JD(S), NCP, Shiv Sena and NCPI, participated in the parliamentary meeting. NCPI leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay attended the NDA gathering for the first time after joining the party following his exit from the Trinamool Congress.
Senior leaders present at the meeting included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, among others.
The NDA’s parliamentary interaction reflected the alliance’s focus on highlighting government achievements, youth-focused policies and development initiatives ahead of upcoming political challenges.
