Nitin Nabin Chairs First Meeting With BJP’s New National Team

The BJP president’s first meeting with the revamped office bearers focused on election preparedness, grassroots mobilisation and strengthening public outreach.

NEW DELHI, Aug 22: BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Saturday chaired his first meeting with the party’s newly appointed national office bearers, with discussions centred on election preparedness, grassroots mobilisation and taking government initiatives to the public, party sources said.

The meeting comes days after the BJP announced a major organisational overhaul under Nabin. The new national team has 65 office bearers, including 51 new faces, marking one of the party’s most significant organisational changes in more than a decade.

According to party sources, the leadership reviewed preparations for upcoming state Assembly elections and discussed ways to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level. Leaders were also asked to improve communication with voters and highlight government programmes and achievements.

Further meetings were scheduled for Saturday with BJP state presidents, state in-charges and chief ministers of states governed by the party.

Major changes in BJP organisation

The revamped team includes 13 national vice presidents, among them former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia and former RSS functionary Ram Madhav.

Former Union minister Smriti Irani has been appointed one of the party’s eight national general secretaries. B L Santhosh will continue as national general secretary (organisation), while Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal have retained their positions as general secretaries.

The reshuffle also gives greater representation to women and minority communities. The new national team includes 12 women and six leaders from minority communities.

Union minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed national treasurer, returning to a position he previously held before joining the Union Cabinet during Narendra Modi’s first government in 2014.

IT wing and youth organisation see new leadership

The BJP has also made changes in two key organisational wings. Amit Malviya has been replaced as head of the party’s IT department by Deepak Mhaskey of Chhattisgarh.

In another change, Gujarat leader Hemang Joshi has been appointed president of the BJP Yuva Morcha, succeeding Lok Sabha MP Tejasvi Surya.

The appointments are part of a broader effort to restructure the party ahead of the next round of electoral contests and strengthen coordination between its central and state units.

Reshuffle triggers Cabinet speculation

The scale of the organisational changes has also triggered speculation about a possible Union Cabinet reshuffle.

The latest restructuring comes more than a decade after the BJP’s previous organisational overhaul of comparable scale in 2015, when Amit Shah was party president.

The leadership changes are expected to shape the BJP’s organisational strategy as it prepares for upcoming elections and seeks to expand its outreach among different sections of the electorate.

With Nabin now leading the revamped team, the party is expected to focus on closer coordination between its national leadership, state units and grassroots workers.
