ISLAMABAD, Sep 19: Pakistan Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has called for uninterrupted energy supplies and the safe passage of commercial vessels during a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two ministers discussed the latest developments in West Asia and their implications for regional and global trade.
Dar highlighted the importance of maintaining reliable energy supplies and ensuring the safe and swift movement of ships, particularly because disruptions could affect developing countries and international supply chains.
The Pakistani foreign minister also emphasised the need for dialogue and diplomatic engagement to address regional tensions and promote peace and stability.
The two sides agreed to remain in close contact and continue consultations on developments in the region. Dar and Araghchi are also expected to meet in New York next week on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The conversation comes amid heightened concerns over maritime security and the movement of energy supplies through strategic waterways in West Asia.
The Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman, is a major route for global energy shipments. The Bab al-Mandeb Strait links the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and is also an important corridor for international maritime trade.
