Pakistan Suspends Jaffar Express Service for Four Days Over Terror Threats on Quetta-Peshawar Route

Service halted for four days to ensure passenger safety amid repeated attacks

Islamabad, Nov 11: Pakistan Railways has suspended the Jaffar Express service between Quetta and Peshawar for four days, citing credible terror threats and heightened security concerns, The Express Tribune reported.
According to officials, the suspension effective from November 9 to November 12—follows recommendations from law enforcement and intelligence agencies to ensure the safety of passengers, crew, and railway property.
“The temporary suspension aims to safeguard passengers, railway staff, and assets from any potential security threat,” railway authorities said.
The Jaffar Express, a crucial rail link connecting Balochistan with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has been a frequent target of terrorist attacks in recent years. So far this year, the train has been attacked seven times, resulting in the deaths of at least 30 people and injuries to over 35 others.
In one such incident in October, a blast on a railway track in Sindh’s Shikarpur district derailed four bogies of the Jaffar Express, injuring at least seven passengers. Authorities have since increased surveillance and tightened security measures along the vulnerable sections of the route.
Officials said the suspension is a preventive measure aimed at avoiding further casualties while ensuring that the service resumes safely after a comprehensive security review.
