BENGALURU, May 16: India’s growing focus on technological self-reliance took centre stage at the Pan-IIT Bengaluru Summit 2026, where experts, entrepreneurs and policymakers discussed innovation strategies across critical sectors.
The summit, organised in partnership with the Karnataka government, focused on themes such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, mobility, defence technologies and healthcare innovation.
Organisers said the event aimed to connect researchers, startups, investors and policymakers to strengthen India’s technology ecosystem and reduce dependence on foreign supply chains.
A large-scale hackathon and startup showcase formed major attractions during the summit, with innovators presenting solutions for real-world governance and industrial challenges.
Experts emphasised that semiconductor manufacturing and AI infrastructure would be central to India’s future economic competitiveness. Industry representatives also highlighted the need for stronger research funding and faster commercialisation of indigenous technologies.
Government officials stressed the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and private industry in driving innovation-led growth.
Startup founders participating in the summit said access to venture capital, research support and policy incentives remains crucial for scaling Indian technology enterprises globally.
