JAMMU: Shiv Sena J&K unit today staged vigorous protest against the arbitrarily and autocratic property tax imposed by the J&K government on the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In this regard, dozens of Shiv Sena activists headed by Manish Sahni, President Shiv Sena J&K assembled near Janipur Main Chowk and took out a protest rally about four kilometers on foot upto Amphalla Chowk. Shiv Sena also got widespread public support. The Shiv Sena leaders were holding placards displaying message “Roll Back Property tax” “Govt Relief to public”
Talking to reporters, Sahni said people already bearing brunt of skyrocketing inflation and unable to pay their electricity and water bills, their connections are being disconnected by the administration, the prices of all food items including cooking gas are continuously increasing. A common man facing difficulty in arranging two-time meal for their families in such a situation, the Jammu and Kashmir administration should give up its insistence on collecting property tax.
Sahni said that the general public is facing double whammy of inflation and taxes. Step-motherly treatment is being meted out to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, after becoming a Union Territory and there is no hearing of the people anywhere, he said, adding that the government is keeping the people away from democratic process and treating them like dictatorship and Tughlaqshahi.
Sahni demanded that first the statehood should be returned to Jammu and Kashmir, the democratic process should be restored after then the elected government of Jammu and Kashmir would decide in the assembly whether to impose property tax or not.
Shiv Sena always stands with the people in their hard times and will also continue to raise its voice against the dictatorial attitude adopted by the government.
