Srinagar, 11-12-2023 : Peoples Conference (PC) chief, Sajad Lone, expressed profound disappointment in the wake of the Supreme Court’s verdict on the petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution. Characterizing the decision as ‘disappointing,’ Lone asserted that justice had once again eluded the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement, Sajad Lone remarked, “The Supreme Court verdict on Article 370 is disappointing. Justice yet again eludes the people of J and K.” Despite the legal obliteration of Article 370, Lone emphasized that it would perpetually remain embedded in the political aspirations of the region.
The apex court’s ruling on Monday affirmed the Union Government’s decision on August 5, 2019, to revoke Article 370, which granted special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. The court additionally urged the expeditious restoration of statehood to the Union Territory, directing steps to conduct Assembly elections by September 30 next year.
On the matter of statehood, Sajad Lone observed that the Supreme Court chose to refrain from commenting, effectively shielding the entire country from potential misuse by citing precedent. However, he pointed out the subtle endorsement of a similar misuse in Jammu and Kashmir. Lone expressed hope that justice would awaken from its pretentious slumber at a future date.
