Dehradun, Sep 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Uttarakhand in the second half of October, with preparations underway for a proposed visit to Kedarnath between October 22 and 25. The Prime Minister’s Office, however, has not yet officially announced the programme.
During the proposed visit, Modi is expected to offer prayers at the Kedarnath Temple and review reconstruction and development works in Kedarpuri. Officials said he is likely to take stock of the progress of ongoing projects and review their expected completion timelines.
Security preparations have also begun ahead of the proposed visit. According to officials, a team of the Special Protection Group (SPG) has already inspected the Kedarnath area and submitted its report.
The visit would mark Modi’s seventh visit to the Kedarnath shrine since he became prime minister in 2014. His previous visit to Kedarnath was on October 21, 2022, when he offered prayers and reviewed development works in the area. The Prime Minister’s Office had also documented that visit, which included a review of infrastructure projects around the shrine.
After his Kedarnath programme, Modi is expected to travel to Tehri, where he may inaugurate the 1,000-MW Tehri Pumped Storage Plant operated by THDC India. The project forms part of the Tehri hydroelectric complex and is designed to support grid stability, renewable-energy integration and peak power requirements. THDC currently lists the plant at a total capacity of 1,000 MW.
The proposed Uttarakhand visit comes ahead of the state’s next Assembly election. Modi has made several visits to the Himalayan state over the years, including programmes linked to development projects, religious sites and tourism.
The Prime Minister has also spoken on various occasions about promoting Uttarakhand as a tourism destination. His public outreach has included calls for greater attention to the state’s winter tourism potential and its appeal as a destination for visitors from India and abroad.
The final schedule and programme for the proposed October visit are expected to be formally announced by the PMO.
