Srinagar, July 19, 2025 : A massive protest march of the Congress Party was forcibly prevented by the heavy contingent of police force at the gates of Congress Party headquarter today in Srinagar, which resulted into the scuffle between the police and protestors for about half an hour.
J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Tariq Hameed Karra along with AICC General Secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir, AICC Secretary Shahnawaz Chowdhary, Former PCC President MLA Peerzada Mohd Sayeed, Former Ministers Taj Mohi U Din, Raman Mattoo, MLA Nizam Ud Din Bhat and dozens of Senior leaders including Ex. Legislators led a massive protest march from Srinagar Party headquarters, which was scheduled to culminate at Divisional Commissioner’s Office to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister through LG J&K for restoration of complete Statehood to J&K, but the heavy contingent of police prevented the peaceful march at the gates of Congress Party headquarter Srinagar. The latter used brute force to prevent the massive march by the Congress workers which resulted into a scuffle between the protestors and the police..
JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra received minor injuries during the course of scuffle and the use of force by the police to thwart the peaceful march towards the Divisional Commissioner office.
Hundreds of Congress workers and leaders led by JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra raised slogans and demanded immediate restoration of complete statehood, subsequently dozens of Congress workers including youth congress who had assembled near the Divisional Commissioner office to accompany JKPCC President and other senior leaders, were detained by the police. Prior to their detention they have been successful in handing over the memorandum to the divisional Commissioner on behalf of JKPCC President through ADC Srinagar. Later, the detained Congress workers including Dr.Audil Farooq Mir (Lasjan) PCC Media Coordinators and Youth Leader Yasir Nissar Mundo, were released.
Congress leaders and workers coming from different districts towards the Srinagar Party office were stopped at various entry points. MLA Kreeri Irfan Hafeez Lone alongwith Baramulla DCC President Mir Iqbal along with workers were stopped at Narbal point and not allowed to reach Party office, they staged Dharna on the spot to register their protest against the use of brute force to prevent them to reach Srinagar.
Later, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee forwarded a copy of Memorandum to LG J&K through mail for onward submission.
Ex.Legislators Haji Abdul Rashid Dar,Bashir Ahmad Magray, Mohd Amin Bhat, Senior Leader Surinder Singh Channi, Nissar Ahmad Mundoo, Mahila President Shameema Raina, GSO Abid Kashmiri, District Presidents Irfan Naqib, Zaffar Farooq Salati, Abdul Rashid Lone, Umer Jaan, Sheikh Aijaz, Reyaz Manhas, Er. Muzaffar Dar & Mohd Iqbal Mir(Ang), Shaheena Neda, Nargis, Suhail Bukhari, Haji Farooq Mir, Gulzar Chowdhary, Shabnum, Raja Bano and various other leaders participated in the protest.
