New Delhi, Aug 21: Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi reviewed key priorities in the higher education sector with senior officials on Thursday, with discussions centred on improving academic quality, strengthening institutions and expanding opportunities for students.
Joshi said the meeting examined ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s higher education ecosystem. The review comes at a time when the government is undertaking changes to the country’s examination system following concerns surrounding several major entrance and eligibility tests.
The Education Ministry has been focusing on measures to improve the reliability and security of examinations conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The recent concerns over UGC-NET and earlier issues surrounding NEET-UG have increased pressure on authorities to strengthen examination procedures.
Following directions from the minister, the NTA has reported steps to improve security arrangements and examination infrastructure. The government has also announced changes to the testing agency’s examination framework, including tighter scrutiny of question papers and changes in its expert system.
The latest review is expected to support broader efforts to improve institutional excellence and ensure students receive better academic and professional opportunities.
With millions of students depending on national-level examinations for admission, fellowships and academic careers, the government’s focus on examination integrity remains a major component of its education agenda.
