India, Nov 10 : India’s para badminton contingent delivered an outstanding performance at the Japan Para Badminton International 2025, with Pramod Bhagat leading the charge by winning three gold medals across singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events. Tokyo Paralympic champion Krishna Nagar added two golds in singles and mixed doubles, while Sukant Kadam claimed gold in men’s doubles and silver in singles.
Bhagat was the standout performer of the tournament. In the SL3 men’s singles final, he staged a remarkable comeback against Japan’s Daisuke Fujihara, recovering from a first-set loss and a 16-19 deficit in the second set to eventually clinch the match 17-21, 21-19, 21-10 in 1 hour and 33 minutes. In men’s doubles, Bhagat paired with Sukant Kadam to defeat fellow Indians Jagadesh Dilli and Naveen Sivakumar in a three-set thriller (21-17, 18-21, 21-16). He completed his golden hat-trick by winning the mixed doubles SL4-SU5 title with Manisha Ramadass, overcoming Nitesh Kumar and Thulasimathi Murugesan 21-19, 21-19.
Speaking after his triumph, Bhagat said, “Winning three golds here in Japan means a lot. Each match tested me mentally and physically, and I’m proud of how I handled the pressure. This victory gives me great motivation ahead of future tournaments.”
Krishna Nagar showcased his class by winning two gold medals in SH6 men’s singles and SH6 mixed doubles. In singles, he overcame a first set deficit to defeat USA’s Miles Krajewski 22-20, 21-13 and later teamed up with Nithya Sre to secure the mixed doubles gold.
Nagar said, “Every match was competitive, and I had to dig deep, especially in the singles final. I’m happy to bring glory to India once again.”
Sukant Kadam also contributed to India’s medal haul, claiming gold in men’s doubles with Bhagat and silver in SL4 singles after a spirited loss to Naveen Sivakumar. “The doubles gold with Pramod was special, and the silver in singles motivates me to work harder. The Indian contingent’s performance shows the strength of our para badminton ecosystem,” he said.
India’s dominant display in Tokyo underlines the growing stature of the nation in para badminton and sets a strong momentum ahead of upcoming international competitions.
