Darjeeling, Jan 12 : The mortal remains of singer actor Prashant Tamang arrived at Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri, drawing fans, friends, and well wishers who came to pay their final respects to the artist who had captured hearts across India.
Among those present was BJP MP Raju Bista, along with several notable figures from the entertainment industry.
From Airport to Home: Darjeeling Prepares Farewell
After landing, Tamang’s body was taken to Chowrasta, Darjeeling, for traditional rituals and a public viewing. His final rites were conducted in the presence of family members and local villagers, reflecting the deep connection he had with his community.
Andrew Gurung, National President of the Gorkha Shaheed Sewa Samiti (GSSS), confirmed the arrangements, stating that the community was ready to honour their beloved son.
Leaders and Fans in Mourning
Speaking to ANI, Raju Bista expressed profound sorrow over Tamang’s sudden demise. “It is a great loss for us,” he said. “Prashant did a wonderful job as a singer and artist. He united the Gorkha people through his talent. The whole country stands with his family during this difficult time.”
Bista also highlighted Tamang’s personal life: he leaves behind a young daughter, and his wife works at Air India. The family was based in Delhi.
Cause of Death
The sudden passing of Prashant Tamang shocked fans nationwide. ADCP South-West Delhi, Abhimanyu Poswal, confirmed that when the family brought him to the hospital, he had already passed away.
“An MLC was received, and our investigation team, along with FSL, visited his residence to collect evidence. The body has been sent for a postmortem at DDU Hospital to determine the exact cause of death,” Poswal said.
He added, “At this stage, nothing suspicious has been found. We can conclude nothing until the postmortem report comes.” Tamang’s wife and daughter were with him and provided statements to authorities.

Prashant rose to fame after winning Indian Idol Season 3, charming audiences with his powerful voice and humble persona. He later transitioned into acting, with notable roles including Paatal Lok Season 2. He was also slated to appear in Salman Khan’s upcoming film, Battle of Galwan, and had acted in numerous Nepali movies.
Family Speaks: No Suspicion, Only Love
Addressing media speculation about his sudden death, Tamang’s wife, Martha Aley, clarified: “It was a natural death. He passed away peacefully in his sleep, and I was right beside him. We are grateful for all the love and support from fans and well-wishers around the world.”
