Proteas Star Batsman Hangs Up His Boots, Ends International Career

South African batter bows out after impressive run, remains committed to domestic cricket

India, April 3 — Former South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen announced his retirement from international cricket on Thursday, ending a career that saw him excel across all formats. The 37 year old Johannesburg born player, who was left out of this year’s centrally contracted list, confirmed he will continue representing his domestic team, the Lions.

Van der Dussen, who made his international debut in 2018 at the age of 29, played 18 Tests, 71 ODIs, and 57 T20 Internationals for the Proteas, with his last appearance coming in March last year.

“It is with a proud heart and a profound sense of gratitude that I announce my retirement from international cricket,” van der Dussen said in a statement on X. “Wearing the Proteas jersey requires resilience and dedication, and the experience has rewarded me in the most incredible way.”

Focused on contributing at the domestic level, van der Dussen aims to continue nurturing talent and bringing his experience to the Lions squad while closing a remarkable chapter in South African cricket.
