Los Angeles: Actor Rafe Spall has joined HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television series, taking on the role of Arthur Weasley as the production expands its cast.
Spall’s casting adds another connection between the new series and the original film franchise. His father, actor Timothy Spall, played Peter Pettigrew in several of the earlier Harry Potter films.
The younger Spall is set to portray Arthur Weasley in the second season of the new series, which will adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
The expanding cast also includes actors taking on several familiar characters from the wizarding world. The series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, while John Lithgow plays Albus Dumbledore and Paapa Essiedu portrays Severus Snape.
Other recently announced additions include Molly Hewitt-Richards as Moaning Myrtle, Kit Harington as Gilderoy Lockhart and Lenny Rush as Dobby.
The new adaptation is being developed as a television series based on J.K. Rowling’s books, with the first season scheduled for release on Christmas Day.
