NEW DELHI, Sep 15: Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday released a commemorative postage stamp in honour of Sant Malukdas, recalling the saint’s spiritual teachings and his contribution to promoting the ideals associated with Lord Ram.
Speaking at the event, Scindia said the words and lives of saints have continued to guide and inspire the soul of India.
He described the release of the stamp as a special occasion, noting that it coincided with the inauguration of Shri Ram Katha and commemorated a saint whose life was deeply rooted in devotion to Lord Ram.
Scindia said Sant Malukdas’ devotion extended beyond worship and prayer. According to the minister, the saint made the ideals represented by Lord Ram the guiding philosophy of his life and communicated those values to society.
“He saw Lord Ram as a symbol of duty, sacrifice, truth, compassion, justice and public welfare,” Scindia said.
Referring to major religious and cultural initiatives, including the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Kashi Vishwanath Dham and Mahakal Lok, the minister said development and cultural heritage should not be viewed as conflicting priorities.
He also highlighted efforts to preserve and revive spiritual and cultural heritage sites across the country.
Scindia urged people to make two resolutions inspired by Sant Malukdas’ teachings. He called upon citizens to follow the path shown by the saint and uphold the values and principles he propagated.
The minister said people should make maryada the righteous conduct and ideals associated with Lord Shri Ram a foundation of their lives and make service an integral part of their values and culture.
The event also saw seers raise a demand for a central law prohibiting cow slaughter.
Mahant Ram Pravesh Das called upon the government to introduce legislation on the issue, saying cow protection should be ensured across the country.
“Why is there a delay in bringing a bill?” he asked, while urging the government to act on the demand.
Several states, including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Karnataka, have laws restricting or prohibiting cow slaughter, though the provisions vary from state to state.
Swami Rajendra Das Devacharya also expressed support for the demand raised by the seer.
