Jammu, 27 Mar: The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal Friday led a protest both inside and outside the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in Jammu, expressing solidarity with the people of Iran amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
Addressing the media, Sadiq described Martyr Syed Ali Khamenei as not merely a political figure but a deeply revered religious leader respected by millions of Muslims worldwide. He termed his killing as “highly condemnable” and urged the country’s top leadership to take a clear and principled stand on the matter.
“We stand in solidarity with Iran. The entire National Conference and the J&K government stand together,” Sadiq stated, adding that he has moved a call attention motion in the Assembly. He emphasised that no nation has the right to attack another, calling such actions a violation of fundamental principles of justice and humanity.
Calling for unity, Sadiq urged members of the Assembly to rise above political differences and collectively express solidarity with the people of Iran during this difficult time. He also lauded the people across the Kashmir Valley from children to the elderly for contributing generously towards relief efforts for Iran, terming it a reflection of deep-rooted humanitarian values.
Furthermore, Sadiq strongly appealed for the immediate release of individuals detained in Kashmir for expressing grief, asserting that “grief cannot be criminalized and peaceful expression must be respected in a democracy.”
During the protest, Sadiq wore black bands inscribed with “Khamenei” and carried a photograph of the late leader as a mark of respect and mourning. He was joined by other party MLAs as well in the protest.
