- National Conference Promises Grassroots Relief and Representation for OBC Community
Udhampur, Jan 17: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) OBC Cell on Thursday held a public meeting at Panchayat Debrah in Udhampur district, presided over by its Chairman Abdul Gani Teli, during which residents voiced long-pending concerns related to basic civic amenities.
Participants at the meeting highlighted the deteriorating condition of village roads, frequent power outages, and acute scarcity of drinking water, stating that these issues have severely affected daily life in the rural belt. Speakers noted that inadequate infrastructure has remained a persistent grievance across several villages of the district, impacting agriculture, education and overall quality of life.
Addressing the gathering, Abdul Gani Teli acknowledged the seriousness of the issues raised and assured the people of prompt follow-up and stronger grassroots engagement under the party’s public outreach programme. He said that problems related to roads, electricity and water supply are common across many rural parts of Udhampur and require sustained administrative attention.
He assured the residents that their genuine demands would be taken up with the concerned authorities for early redressal, stressing that access to basic services is a fundamental right and a priority for the party.
Reiterating the party’s broader commitment, Teli said that the leadership of JKNC Chief Patron Dr Farooq Abdullah and the Omar Abdullah-led government remains firmly focused on the welfare of people, particularly those belonging to rural and marginalised communities. He said this approach aligns with the National Conference government’s priorities since assuming office, with emphasis on equitable development and improved access to essential services such as water supply, power, roads and healthcare in underserved areas.
Looking ahead to upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections, the JKNC OBC Cell Chairman gave a categorical assurance that the party would ensure reservation for the OBC community in the forthcoming local body polls. He said political representation at the grassroots level is essential for inclusive governance and meaningful participation of backward communities in decision-making.
The programme was organised by JKNC OBC Cell District President Anitullah, along with Taj Ali and other team members. A large number of local residents and party workers attended the meeting, including Thakur Dass, Pavitar Singh, Ravi Kumar, Sudesh Kumar, Deep Kumar, Ali Mashroom, Parkash Chand, Rattan Lal, Ramesh Kumar, Jewel Kumar, Sheena Begum, Aisha Akthir, Suriya Akthir and Shamim Akthir, among others.
