SUCHETGARH, JUN 4: Taranjit Singh Tony, Chairman of AAP J&K for Administrative Engagement and Minority Affairs and DDC Suchetgarh on Sunday sought resignation of a Railway Minister in response to the tragic accident in Balasore.
The senior AAP leader said that while the party wants to refrain from any political mudslinging, Prime Minister Narendra Modi owes it to the people to explain who is responsible for such a catastrophic loss of life.
He said that the government at the Centre and Railways did nothing to improve rail safety measures over the past nine years and only increased train fares. The lack of action by the authorities is what led to this heartbreaking accident. He questioned why Kavach, a state-of-the-art train protection technology, has yet to be implemented in the country. He said Kavach is designed to automatically apply brakes if a train is running too fast and could have averted the tragedy in Balasore.
Notably, more than 300 persons have lost their lives in the train derailment in Balasore, Odisha while more than 400 people have received severe injuries.
Tony believed that the Railway Minister should take responsibility for the safety lapses in the railway system that led to the incident and he should resign on moral ground. He asked the government to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure the implementation of Kavach technology as soon as possible.
While sympathizing for loss of lives, Tony demanded adequate compensation for the families of the victims and urged the government to give government jobs to the kins of deceased in the Indian Railways.
Earlier, Tony along Sarpanch Akshay Kumar and other prominent people of Suchetgarh started blacktopping work of a road leading to cremation ground at Village Bajechak.
Tony said that this road has been constructed first time since the inception of the aforesaid village. He said during rainy season, the locals faced severe hardship while carrying the dead bodies to the cremation ground due to the lack of a properly constructed road. He said the blacktopping of said road would give massive relief to the residents who have long awaited such development.
Tony asked people of the area to support and strengthen the AAP Party for the overall development of the state and country in general.
