Uttar Pradesh Presents Rs 9.13 Lakh Crore Budget, Prioritises Infrastructure and Agriculture

Focuses on Infrastructure and Agricultural Growth

UP, Feb 11: The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday unveiled a tax free budget of Rs 9,12,696 crore for the financial year 2026-27, highlighting a development driven agenda centred on infrastructure, agriculture, energy, and industrial expansion.

Infrastructure and Export Potential Highlighted
Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said the budget reflects the state’s commitment to balanced, infrastructure-led growth. He pointed out that Uttar Pradesh has secured the top rank among landlocked states in the Export Preparedness Index 2024, underscoring its industrial and export capabilities.

Agricultural Advancements
Khanna noted that Uttar Pradesh continues to lead nationally in the production of wheat, paddy, sugarcane, potatoes, bananas, mangoes, guavas, amla, and mint. The state has expanded irrigated land by six million hectares over the last decade, raising crop intensity from 162.7% in 2016-17 to 193.7% in 2024-25, reinforcing its agricultural dominance.

Energy and Green Development
In the energy sector, thermal power capacity has grown by over 55%, from 5,878 MW in 2016-17 to 9,120 MW in 2025-26. The government has also invested in clean energy, with 2,815 MW of solar projects now operational.

Economic Growth and Social Progress
Khanna shared that the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) for 2024-25 is estimated at Rs 30.25 lakh crore, marking a 13.4% rise, while per capita income has increased from Rs 54,564 in 2016-17 to Rs 109,844. He added that approximately 60 million people have been lifted out of multidimensional poverty, with unemployment declining to 2.24%.

Industrial Investment and Innovation Drive
The Finance Minister highlighted MoUs worth Rs 50 lakh crore signed at the 2024 Global Investors Summit, projected to generate one million jobs. Uttar Pradesh is now India’s largest mobile phone manufacturing hub, producing 65% of the nation’s phones, while electronics exports have reached Rs 44,744 crore. The state has achieved “Leader Category” status in national startup rankings through innovation-focused initiatives.

All-Round Development Emphasised
Khanna reiterated that the government has ensured progress across law and order, infrastructure, employment, women empowerment, youth skill development, farmer prosperity, and poverty alleviation. He expressed confidence that the 2026-27 budget would further boost the state’s economic and developmental trajectory.
