Weather Update: Drop in Nighttime Temperatures and Rain Forecast in J&K

16-06-2023 : The recent weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir,  have seen a drop in night temperatures accompanied by a forecast for isolated light rains. According to officials from the meteorological department, several regions in the state have experienced a decrease in nighttime temperatures.

Starting with Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, the temperature dropped to 15.6°C compared to the previous night’s 17.3°C. Despite the decline, the temperature remained 0.8°C above normal for this time of year.

In Qazigund, a gateway town of Kashmir, the low temperature was recorded at 14.0°C, down from the previous night’s 16.0°C. However, it still remained 0.7°C above the average temperature for the region.

Moving to Pahalgam, a famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, the temperature dropped to 7.8°C from the previous night’s 10.1°C. This decrease of 0.7°C brought the temperature slightly below the normal range for this popular tourist destination.

In Kupwara town, located in north Kashmir, the mercury settled at 11.4°C, marking a decline from the previous night’s 14.7°C. The temperature was 1.8°C below the normal range for the area.

Similarly, Kokernag recorded a low temperature of 13.4°C, down from 14.3°C the previous night. Despite the slight drop, the temperature was still 0.3°C above the normal range for the region.

Gulmarg, the world-famous skiing resort situated in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, experienced a low temperature of 7.6°C, compared to the previous night’s 9.5°C. The temperature was 0.7°C below the normal range for Gulmarg.

In Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, the low temperature was recorded at 24.5°C, higher than the previous night’s 21.7°C. However, it still remained 1.0°C below the normal range for this time of year.

Other regions in the state also reported their respective temperatures. Banihal recorded a low of 16.2°C, which was 2.1°C above the normal range. Batote reported a temperature of 16.1°C, just 0.1°C above the normal range. Katra, known for the Vaishno Devi shrine, had a temperature of 21.6°C, 0.5°C below the normal range. Bhaderwah recorded a temperature of 15.0°C, which was 1.3°C above the normal range.

According to the meteorological department, there is a forecast for isolated light rains in Jammu and Kashmir until June 17. These rains are expected to provide relief from the summer heat and may further contribute to the drop in temperatures across the region.
