Wrestlers view filing of FIR against Brij Bhushan as a first step towards victory

28-4-2023 : The Delhi Police has decided to file an FIR against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), on charges of sexual harassment and intimidation. The decision was made in response to the ongoing protests by wrestlers who have been demanding that an FIR be filed against Singh since they resumed their agitation on April 23. The wrestlers, who put up huge banners at Jantar Mantar, demanded that the BJP MP be removed from all the positions he holds.

While the protesting wrestlers are pleased with the decision to file an FIR, they will continue their agitation until Singh is arrested and removed from his positions. They don’t trust the Delhi Police or any committee and will present all evidence only before the Supreme Court.

World Championship medallist Vinesh Phogat said that the Delhi Police took six days to file an FIR, and they don’t trust the probe agency. The protesting wrestlers are concerned that Singh may try to influence the investigation and that a loose FIR might be filed. The wrestlers are supported by several sports personalities, including Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, ace boxer Nikhat Zareen, tennis star Sania Mirza, hockey player Rani Rampal, and renowned former cricketers Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, Madan Lal, and Navjot Singh Sidhu.

The wrestlers have accused Singh of sexual harassment and intimidation, and they want to save the sport and lift wrestling from darkness. They also claim that the Sports Minister did not take their calls, and they will cooperate with the Police in the investigation. The protesting wrestlers feel that this is the first step towards victory, but they will continue their agitation until justice is served.
