KYIV, Dec 26: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday said that several documents linked to a potential peace agreement are “fully prepared” following discussions with United States envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, indicating progress in efforts to end the war with Russia.
In a video message posted on X, Zelenskyy said while sensitive issues remain, Ukraine and the US share a clear understanding of how to move the peace process forward.
“It is important if we succeed in organising what we discussed today with President Trump’s envoys. Some documents, as I see it, are nearly ready, and some documents are fully prepared,” Zelenskyy said. “There is still work to be done on sensitive issues, but together with the American team, we understand how to put all of this in place. The weeks ahead may be intensive.”
Earlier in the day, Zelenskyy met US representatives Witkoff and Kushner along with Ukrainian officials, describing the talks as constructive and focused on achieving lasting peace.
“Today we had a very good conversation with President Trump’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner,” Zelenskyy wrote on X. “There are good ideas that can work toward a shared outcome and lasting peace.”
The Ukrainian President said discussions covered substantive details related to security guarantees, recovery, and realistic steps toward ending the conflict. He emphasised that Ukraine, the US, Europe and international partners must work together to ensure any agreement is effective and durable.
Zelenskyy also expressed gratitude for the US engagement and confirmed that Defence Minister Rustem Umerov would hold further talks with the American envoys to maintain momentum.
“We believe this is the right approach not to lose a single day or a single opportunity that can bring the result closer,” he said, adding that he had conveyed Christmas greetings to US President Donald Trump and his family.
Earlier, in his Christmas message to Ukrainians, Zelenskyy reiterated his call for peace while condemning Russia for launching attacks on the eve of the festival.
“We are happy when we hear the music of Christmas, but even happier when we do not hear the music of evil when we do not hear drones and missiles flying overhead,” he said.
