03-11-2021: Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Jammu President Arun Gupta on Tuesday urged JMC Commissioner Avny Lavasa to deal with the trader fraternity of the region considerately and facilitate them to make up the losses they have incurred in the last couple of years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and law and order problems in the UT.
A delegation of CCI led by its President met Commissioner JMC Avny Lavasa and discussed various issues concerning traders of Jammu city.
Arun Gupta said that JMC should show a considerate view towards the traders’ fraternity and should not impose unnecessary restrictions in the name of inspections as the business community is already facing lots of hardships. He said that if the traders are using some extra space for showcasing their products the JMC should not act in an arbitrary manner to penalize them as leniency, in this case, would help them to have good business.
Arun Gupta also said that the JMC should tweak building permission rules for commercial buildings as the same are acting as hurdles to get bank loans which are not in the interest of traders and the general public. He appealed to the JMC Commissioner to implement 100 percent construction of horticulture mandis, Warehousing as per the Master Plan 2032.
The CCI delegation also urged the JMC Commissioner to rescind the notice given to shopkeepers at Gole Market for vacating land chunks wherein they are running their business for the last over 50 years. They also urged the JMC Commissioner not to harass traders by conducting anti-encroachment drives in view of the festive season.
Arun Gupta further asserted that what is the fun of demanding NOC from Housing Board/JDA of the Plot Holders who wanted to raise constructions on their plots when already the aforesaid department has accorded them the freeholder rights which are legally sound enough and is in a way a nod from the department to carry out constructions independently.
The delegation however appreciated the novel ideas implemented by the JMC to woo visitors to Jammu especially light and sound show, selfie point, vertical gardens, etc.
After giving a patient hearing to the delegation, the JMC Commissioner assured to look into all the matters on priority and said that no trader will be harassed unnecessarily as the Corporation works professionally. She however asked the delegation to advise the traders to adopt best trading practices and never fleece the customers.
Anil Gupta, Sr. Vice President, Gaurav Gupta, Secretary-General, Rajesh Gupta, Treasurer, and Sh Ravinder Sawhney were also present in the meeting.
